EUROPEAN SENIOR MAN WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPs

The first European senior man weightlifting championships were held in Rotterdam (NED) in 1896. The European Championships held its 100th edition in 2022.

The first European senior woman weightlifting championships were held in the City of San Marino (SMR) in 1988. These competitions were held independently until 1998 when they were combined with the European senior men’s weightlifting championships.

EUROPEAN JUNIOR & U23 WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The European Weightlifting Federation hosts the European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships each year. European junior men weightlifting championships have been held since 1973. The first European junior women’s championships were held in 1998, ten years after the first European senior women championships. Since 2009, the European U23 Weightlifting Championships have been introduced. That year, the competitions were held in two cities: Landskrona for the European Junior Weightlifting Championships and Wladyslawowo for the new European U23 Weightlifting Championships. After that year, the competition was given its current name. The IWF does not recognize the European U23 Championships.
